Music-it's a wonderful gift from God that graces our world in many ways, from world-class orchestras to small children performing their first piano recital. Music holds a vital place in our lives as entertainment, inspiration, motivation, and relaxation. It's difficult to imagine a life without music.
For us, the primary function of music is to support congregational song. We worship the Lord by singing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.
We recognize that there are many different genres of music a Christian congregation can embrace. We seek out music with truthful lyrics that draws our hearts and minds together, and which enables us to worship our Triune God in spirit and in truth.
While we employ a variety of musical styles, we lean toward a genre called "Black Gospel." Some examples of this genre include Clint Brown, the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir, Al Slaughter, Israel Houghton, and Martha Munizzi. We have found Black Gospel to be a way of achieving our goal of passionate worship and a good strategy for becoming a multi-ethnic community.
Our musical accompaniment includes a keyboard or two, percussion and drum-kit, bass guitar, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and a few horns. We also hope to form a choir to sing with the band and support congregational singing.
Instead of hymn books, we use a projector and screen to display the words of our congregational songs. This allows worshipers the freedom to praise the Lord with both their voices and their hands. We hope you will find both blessing and self-expression through the music we lift up in worship.
