The Friday We Call “Good”

Posted on Apr 3, 2010

Living Hope Church gathered on April 2 for its first-ever Good Friday Service. The evening centered around an early Christian tradition called "Tenebrae," a word with Latin roots which means darkness or shadows. The service included singing and the reading of several passages of scripture which described the suffering and death of Jesus  Christ. In addition, the visual dimension of the service was enhanced by the congregation gathering in a circle around a cross made from candles.  After each scripture reading during the service, one or two candles were extinguished. The service concluded with all candles extinguished and the congregation leaving the room in silence.
