Three members of Living Hope Church spent three days (April 15-17) reflecting on Peter’s interactions with Jesus—with one, Dan Lugo, leading those discussions. Over the weekend, Lugo (pictured, right) spoke five times at The Living Room’s retreat on the theme “Rocky Road: Following Peter Following Jesus.” The Living Room is a Bible study that was started seven years ago by recent college graduates seeking to remain involved in a Christian ministry. Josh and Michelle Nissen, also members of Living Hope, are part of the study that meets each Tuesday night and includes people from almost 10 different churches. Seeing a good fit for the group, the Nissens approached Lugo about speaking at the retreat, held at the Little Galilee Christian Camp in Clinton, Illinois.
”I don't pretend to be the greatest speaker,” Lugo said. “That being said, even I was surprised at how God used what I had been planning to speak directly to so many attendees. ... My idea was that by following Peter's interactions with Jesus we might be able to get more insight into who Jesus is. Also, Peter's journey of faith, doubt, and denial are typical of the common Christian faith journey. His life speaks to our life.”
Michelle spoke about how everyone walked away spiritually renewed, with a burning desire to seek more whole-heartedly after their Savior.
“From the five sessions, many of the group members felt convicted to follow after Christ with a reckless abandon,” Michelle said. “After Dan's session about faith in which he spoke on Peter trying to walk to Jesus on the water, the Living Room members were realizing that whether they sink, swim, or walk, they wanted to get out of the boat. They want to do what God is calling them to do and have the faith to carry that out.”
Lugo will be posting his reflections as well as audio from the retreat over the next week on his blog, which you can visit here: http://lugoslogos.wordpress.com.
