As both an outreach to the community and a fundraiser, Living Hope Church held a garage sale on May 6-7 at the home of Pastor Sam and Debbie Hamstra. Living Hope volunteers were able to share hope for what matters with those who came looking for a bargain on sports memorabilia and equipment, kids clothing, furniture, toy trains, purses, books, shoes, DVD, faux fur coats, tools and more.
“I loved the garage sale,” said Pastor Hamstra. “Not only did it generate some income for the ministry of Living Hope Church, but it also gave Living Hope folks an opportunity to serve together and to meet people in the community. And personally, I don’t know what it is about a garage sale, but I met more of my neighbors in two days than I have in two years. It was great.”
Over the course of the two-day sale, $929.90 was generated for the ministry of Living Hope. Peter Holtrop, who was the leading force behind the effort, first proposing the idea, then collecting and coordinating the donations, was excited to see all of the hard work pay off.
“After more than six months of bringing donations over to Pastor Hamstra’s house, it was great to put everything up for sale and bring it almost $1,000,” said Holtrop. “It was a wonderful way to bring together people from Living Hope, and take a step out into the community. I want to thank everyone for their time and donated goods.”
