Characters of All Kinds Attend Halloween Party

Posted on Nov 2, 2011

Halloween PartySuperwoman, Woody, a broke college student, and a family of clowns—all were present on Monday, October 31, as Living Hope Church held a Halloween Party at the home of Pastor Chris and Kim Cano. More than 30 people, from church members to community members, enjoyed fellowship over food and games. The evening was sponsored by Living Hope’s discipleship group.

“We are all about authentic community at Living Hope,” said Mandi Speakman, a member of the discipleship group. “The Lord is leading us to build relationships with one another and reach out to those in the surrounding community. It is a joy to see the Lord at work!”

The children went trick-or-treating in the neighborhood, and everyone had the opportunity to paint a pumpkin. There were prizes for best costumes as well as the best decorated pumpkins.

“I have loved popcorn ever since I was a kid,” said Speakman, who came dressed as a box of popcorn, “and I still eat it all the time. Last week, I talked with my roommate about costume ideas for this party and it just came to me. Together, we worked on it and it turned out better than we imagined!”

For her efforts, Speakman took best female costume. Peter Holtrop, dressed as Woody from Toy Story, took best male costume, while Pastor Chris and Kim Cano (Superman and Superwoman) won best costumes for a couple. Meanwhile, Kat Stackhouse took third place for the adults in the pumpkin painting contest, while Pastor Sam Hamstra took second, and Courtney Oosterhouse took first.
