Captain Published In “Banner”

Living Hope's Mark Hamstra was recently published in the September 2009 issue of the Banner, the denominational periodical of the Christian Reformed Church in North America. Mark, a captain in the Army currently stationed in Kandahar, Afghanistan, wrote a short piece simply entitled "A Note from Afghanistan". The article, which wrestles with the question of Christians and war, concludes with these words: "It's time for the church to be bigger than the community that wants victory more than peace, but it's also time for the church to be bigger than nonviolence and pacifism. It's time to be a church that calls its people to vocations that engage the world in which we live." During his most recent leave, Mark and Sandra Hamstra gathered with Living Hope Church and presented their son, Tyce, for baptism (pictured below).
