Baptism of Cade Axel Hamstra

Posted on Nov 10, 2010

For the second time in a month, Living Hope welcomed a new young member into its community through baptism. On Sunday, November 7, dozens of friends and family members witnessed the baptism of Cade Axel Hamstra, son of Captain Mark and Sandra Hamstra, and grandson of Pastor Sam and Debbie Hamstra. The Hamstras, currently stationed with the Army Space Brigade in Colorado Springs, Colorado, were home for the weekend. Tyce Andrew, their firstborn, was baptized at Living Hope in 2009.

“It was an honor to baptize my second grandson and to claim the promises that he has been set apart by God’s grace and is now engaged to profess the faith in Christ,” said Pastor Hamstra. “I pray that the Lord works in the hearts and souls of both my grandsons at a very young age and that he equips and uses their parents, Mark and Sandra, to lead them by example into a life of Christian discipleship.”

The vows spoken at the baptism are included below the photo.

Cade Axel Hamstra Baptism
BAPTISM VOWS:

Since you present your son for holy baptism, I ask you to answer the following questions before God and his people:

First, do you confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, accept the promises of God, and affirm the truth of the Christian faith which is proclaimed in the Bible and confessed in this church of Christ?

Second, do you believe that your son, though sinful by nature, is received by God in Christ as a member of his covenant, and therefore ought to be baptized?

Third, do you promise, in reliance on the Holy Spirit and with the help of the Christian community, to do all in your power to instruct your son in the Christian faith and to lead him by your example into the life of Christian discipleship?
